James B. Earley (5 April 1934 / Mounds, Il)
San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge of Lights.....Homeless Child's Perspective
'Mommy...Daddy
..Bridge is dancing! ! ! '
Homeless still
Amidst the glare
Millions Watching
Everywhere
Those lights
..A dancing
Yet nary a soul
Sees..hears..nor cares
Those screams of joy
'Our' homeless child
...Is fancying
Save..Mommy..Daddy
And the anguished
.....Bridge...
Just...dancing
Author's Note:
'The light sculpture, which will be on every night for two years, has become a darling of moneyed Silicon Valley types. The project is privately financed and is estimated to cost some $8 million.'

Watching the Bay Bridge Lightshow brought me back to the feelings of my own childhood, especially of having time to contemplate the world moving around me - so James B. Earley's poem, with its poignant homeless child image touched my spirit and my mind. Nice.
