Sand And Birds Poem by Lone Ginger

Sand And Birds

I blinked, only to be staring at my own reflection.
The water filled hole I had dug in the sand before I closed my eyes.
My face, clean shaven and bare in the sandy mirror.
I have done this once before, when I was in love.
Only because I was no longer afraid to show the scarred skin under my gruff face.
I look up, only to see the most beautiful women had ever laid eyes on.
Walking along the waters edge, a dog hopping and chasing at her heels.
The pale white skin, dark hair that kept covering her face... she walked with so much life.
I then notice its almost sunset, the bright orange flare just nesting on the water line in front of me.
She turns in my direction.
I think to myself 'she is missing the best part'.
She then waves for me to come.
I lean forward, seeing my face once more, smiling as I get up and start to walk towards her.
The wind still blowing her hair across her face as she steps towards me.
I catch a glimpse of a bird, tattooed on the midsection of her right calf.
I'm five feet away, feeling this warm sensation ripping through my stomach slowly creeping up my back.
But I still can't see her face.
She reaches out to me, so I reach for her.
Our fingers touch.
I blink...
I find myself laying in bed, clock showing two a.m.
My hand stretched towards the ceiling, as if I was reaching for something.
I'm smiling, as if someone had told me they loved me.
But I lay here alone and cold.
Where did she go.
Who was she...

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A dream I had 7 years ago, written down last year. wanted to share in secrecy because three days ago I met a girl i hadnt talked to or seen in ages with a bird tattooed on her calf, she was my first high school crush. She had left after my freshman year and I never saw her till the other day. I have no idea what to do.
