Sanguis Christi Poem by Paul Clement Czaja

Sanguis Christi

Sins are the cause for Jesus’ blood sacrifice,
And my sins are included in that blood bath.
Never could I have redeemed my soiled soul.
God is love, and I have been self-serving
Under the white cover of my given talents.
I have allowed my pride dictate my actions
So often that it has become my bright habit.

Christ Jesus was scourged and nailed by his
Hands and feet to hang for hours on a cross
Right before Mother Mary’s eyes until he died
In agony victimized by my sins of selfishness.
So I cannot but think of his horrible bloodshed
To be but a cleansing and redemptive washing
Intended to prepare me as a red gift to God.
