Whilst in the throes of some nightmare
you find your limbs are paralysed.
Your enemies are every where
and danger lurks on every side.
Held in the grip of mortal fear.
You dare not even look behind
although you know it’s drawing near
You’re terrified of what you’ll find.
You cannot run although you try
your legs will not co-operate
Your heart beats at a furious rate
You’re certain that you’re going to die.
Sheer terror helps your mind to break
the chains of sleep so you are free.
You suddenly start wide awake
in your own bed as you should be.
Returning to reality
You are convinced it was a dream.
But things aren’t as they seem to be.
Nobody hears your final scream.
