Scars Poem by Sarah Wilson

Scars

I hope you never know,
The feeling of peace and satisfaction wash over you,
After a brief moment of pain which you feel is your due.

I hope you never know,
The pleasure of watching your life's crimson,
Contrast with the colour of the skin you've just broken.

I hope you never know,
The enjoyment of releasing your anger,
As it flows thickly down your arm as hot as molten lava.

I hope you never know,
The thrill of knowing you hold a secret beneath your sleeves,
When no one else has a clue, they see what they perceive.

I hope you never know,
How effective a cutting blade can make you feel better,
If only for a day, the emotional pain has an answer.

When the healing scabs fade away,
The marks left will remain,
On your body and in your brain.

As I sit and stare at my scars,
I am reminded of that time I can never undo,
I wish I never knew.
