Scars Poem by Alex Cairnie

Scars

Rating: 5.0

Look at me, you couldn't guess
That my universe is quite a mess
You couldn't see the crashing cars
That leave so many invisible scars

Look at me the fighting man
The father and the lover too
The one you all think stands too strong
You wouldn't know your all so wrong

Look at me the true success
Would you love me still If I had less
Or would you turn and walk away
And let my shadow slip away

Look at me let your eyes see
The scars I have just parts of me
Some are healed some still raw
All have stories natures law

Look at me not just skin deep
Ask me why I do not sleep
Talk to me about my fear
I'll tell you a truth that makes it clear

Look at me I'm just a man
Making good with what I can
I'd give my last for those like you
And start again with nothing new

Look at me still on my own
Surrounded but I feel alone
My scars the novel of my life
Each one a map cut with a knife

Brilliant last line, Alex. and the rhythm is lyrical and well controlled. Looks like you're going to have to stick another ten in your kit bag! Well done. A deeply honest piece. Tom billsborough
