Schemes Poem by B. V. Dahlen

Schemes

It snowed last night,
And I got up
This morning.
There were no sounds
Inside or out
Until I turned the TV on
To check if school
Was closed today.
Yippee! they said I’m off.
I grab my coat,
My earmuffs too.
I find my gloves
And boots and hood.
I’m off to make
A fort of snow,
And pack it full
Of snowballs so
I can surprise
My friends when they
Come over here.
Mom’s up, and sees me
And my fort.
She’s standing by the door
With snow shovel in hand..
“Aw Mom.” “Be fair.”
This doesn’t happen
All the time, and I
Just want a little while to play.
She stamps her foot.
Holds out the scoop.
The snowball fight
Will have to wait.
