Selcouth Poem by Bhavyakeerti Bohrey

Selcouth

There once was a meadow
Where every step was unreal
Where the trees danced in the sunlight
Where no scar was unhealed
I rode through the emerald folds
Till I reached a woodland
That glowed with a mystic hue
Beside the sparkling river bend

At first, I remained still
For I could not decipher
'What is this world? ' I wondered
'With such beauty in each fibre? '
Dismounting my golden steed
I walked up to the water
Before I heard the enchanting voice
Of probably the Muses' daughter

'Who is there? ' I called out
'I'm new here and probably lost.
If you could kindly help me through
Or else myself I'll exhaust.'
I stood there patiently waiting
For the kind good soul's response
'You are not lost, my child.' I heard
'This is where you belong.'

And before my own wide eyes
I saw with my mouth open wide
As the most elegant of ladies
Emerged from the water on the riverside
She gave me a warm smile
As her sapphire eyes glittered
'Welcome to my world, ' she said
As her robes made of water flittered

'Good day to you, m'lady'
I said with a gentle bow
'I'm a traveller of worlds, you see.
I'd love to see yours, if you may allow.'
After a moment of thought
The gentle lady's smile grew
And she stepped out of the river
In her robes that were bright blue

She took me by the hand
And led me into the forest
Where lay the loveliest secrets
And places untouched and purest
She showed me fields of gold
And a few sparkling silver lakes
Then took me down a winding road
To a kingdom devoid of mistakes

I met people so very vibrant
And dauntless warriors of far
Who told me stories of their valiance
And revolutions to regain their power
I was greeted by great wizards
With goblins, griffins and elves
They had their owls and phoenixes
And potions lined their shelves

I slew the Minotaur and the Hydra
Beside offsprings of the gods
I wielded the sword of the brave
And feasted with high lords
I witnessed with my eyes
The values of valour and friendship
I earned foreign titles of honour
Through various quests and hardships

When the time for goodbyes neared
I thanked my escort with my heart
Who smiled warmly as her form flickered
And our ways we had to part
And then with a deep breath
I closed the book and set it back
As with a smile I stroked its spine
I knew another part of me was on the book rack.

The last part about it all being a book really gave me the chills. Beautifully written!
