Self-Righteousness Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Self-Righteousness

Self-righteousness blinds the Proud
Envelops the unbelieving like a shroud
Self is exalted and all else is corrupt
Nothing of purity will ever be enough.

Self-righteousness will point fingers
Dutifully record the faults of others
Forgetting that three fingers point back
Cannot know the need for grace they lack.

Self-righteous people sneer like the Pharisee
They look at the Self elevated in piety
Excellently graded and marked in perfection
God cannot touch them in their Self adoration.
