Selfish Me Poem by Steven Stocker

Selfish Me

Selfish me, oh selfish me
Have you ever ignored your dignity?
Pride locked away, swallowed the key, patiently wait and hope to see
all the fears you've kept inside, the memories you hide, unleashed one day for all to see.
Selfish me, oh selfish me.

Selfish me, I am I.
Stare at the ceiling, hope to die.
The common fate you've left behind, live for tomorrow on todays full ride.

Selfish me, repress the memory
a childhood for no one to see.
Stay inside, dream of a world to be.
because only in dreams is life worth living.

Selfish me, open your eyes
life is more than what you realize
if you give up now you'll lose sight of the prize
Selfish me, just go on with life

Selfish me, you're just a disguise.
Selfish me, you can say you tried
Selfish me, lose track of time.
Selfish me, this is your life, not mine.

Selfish me, oh selfish me
Take up your time, for no one else to see
What you do for yourself, only effects me
and how I act in return, can only be
selfish me, oh selfish me.
