Send An Angel To Fetch A Life Poem by Anderson Greenwald

Send An Angel To Fetch A Life

Here’s a man so much in love
It hurts him at night when he’s alone
And that love he wants, he’ll never know
He’ll never know
Because she’s in the arms of her love
A husband of seven years
Two wonderful girls
Wearing such pretty bows
Such pretty bows.

He asks to god why it’s not him
And he stares out the window
Thinking

Why stay
In a world so gray
That he can’t get what he wants
Why do
Anything of use
When it just leads to nothing at all

He looks at her again
Thinking thoughts of her and him
Daydreams of the fall
The fall.
He wonders what she’d do
If he confessed all this love
She’d probably laugh
And walk away
Just walk away.

He knows he’s a fool
For loving one who’s loved
But he can’t help himself
He’ll never change.

He woke up as a normal day
Walked out the door and on his face
The countenance of a man so torn
So torn
Opened the door to his car
Start the engine, shut the garage doors
Smile once more into the dark
Into the dark…
