September Poem by Tracy Craighead

September

As September departs I've said goodbye,
To all those I've loved laden with lies.
To all of the romance made up in my mind
Turning away from a narrative too hard to describe.
Complicated love divides,
And in the valley, I seek respite
A place of solace for just one night.
In a solemn sadness, we depart.
Always protecting this fragile heart.
Playing a part perfected by pain.
Trying so hard to stay in this game.
Returning to a lover, but always the same,
Giving away more than I gain.
Living so loud that no one can hear
the cry from a darkness yet to appear.
In a corner, I arise
with wisdom from these broken eyes
With a shred of dignity, I will surprise
those who judge and summarize
my life as a project, incomplete.
Searching for grace before I sleep,
Praying and Hoping so desperately
Heaven will open its doors to me.
