Shadows Played Poem by Linda Hill

Shadows Played

Shadows played
Dancing softly in her room
In her little corner
She didn't see the darkness
Never thought about the gloom
She didn't feel
The terrible pain anymore
She sit quietly all alone
Curled in a ball on the floor

Shadows played
As the fighting got worse downstairs
She wasn't afraid
Just wish she had someone who cares
She knew soon
Her Mommy would come to her door
Take her rage out on her
Like she has so many times before

Shadows played
As she watched the curtain sway
If wishes came true
She'd wish her Mommy away
She heard her steps
As she slid closer to the wall
She heard the click of heels
Coming fast down the hall

Shadows played
As a glow He came in the night
She felt somehow comforted
By the figure surrounded by light
He radiated such love
Her heart to young to understand
As the door burst open
Jesus reached out for her hand
