Sharing Happiness Poem by Paul Hartal

Sharing Happiness

She looked at him
with a question mark in her eyes:

"But when we love,
we want to make our beloved happy;
don't we? ", she said.

"Yes, of course", he agreed.

"Then why did you do this to me? "

He kept silent for a while.

"Darling", he said,
"I love you
with all my heart and soul.
And yes, I do want you to be
truly and immensely happy.
But let's bear also in mind
that your happiness
is not a substitute for my own."
