Shattered Dream Poem by Midifo Yearns

Shattered Dream

Dream shattered like popped balloon.
Breath and shape gone; hanging dregs
of yesterday; misplaced trust and gift.
She looked so lovely then. And he,
prostrate, offered all in whispered vows.
She smiled. Now barren bed and lonely
heart, where young ones stand abused,
forlorn; adults angered. Another day
has passed forever; light snuffed in
fearful darkness. Hope displaced.

Steps to altar seem so steep, empty
patten, tilted chalice spilt of precious
wine. Sacred songs muted, in the
inner tears of broken promise, dirty
plate, un-gathered crumbs of meal
no longer shared, stale and sour bread
that robs a life of savor, and breaks
the trust, that held so much in balance.
Duty bound but dead, the womb is now
a tomb, from which to crawl, or rise again.
