Silence Poem by Sharmeen Azam

Silence

Rating: 3.5

Silence is beautiful in a world full of noise.
Deafened blind mutinies from the abyss
for a blast.
Like the sea floor hidden in obscurity,
these souls want to rise.
Be heard, be seen, taken seriously.

Did I converse with God while in creation, and
choose this world?
A life sentence for crimes not committed,
mine parole board non-existent.
Resignation in the face of adversities,
helpless, at the mercy of others.
Walking a path not of my longing,
if I stumble and fall, it’s of my making.
My dreams I see with eyes wide open,
darkness, silence 24/7.

I will never know the love of my mother’s face,
neither the tears father sheds.
I know what a flower is,
but not what red is.
I know not what lightening is,
for I cannot smell or touch it.
I know not what passion is,
for I cannot hear the sound a lover makes.
I know not what death is,
for stillness I live it.

Heaven will be my life, my world,
if only God decrees it.
