Silence Falls Poem by Matt Bennett

Silence Falls

As my moment came,
I saw the ground below me,
Fall away all the same,
I believe I'm free.
I am flying now,
I am pushed back into my seat,
I'm accelerating, don't know how,
The scenes pass away so very neat.

I reach the peak,
Now I level out and become constant.
My structure seems not weak,
I have everything that I want.
I strike some turbulence, become shaken,
But I am built to last,
In my troubles I waken,
But here I am reminded of my past.

My cracks begin to show,
Perhaps growing larger through the pressure.
This struggle, not many others know,
This trip was meant to be for my leisure.
The nose dive begins,
Fear stricken through us all.
Fighting but I cannot win,
I don't want to experience this fall.

I plummet toward the ground
Faster and faster
Screaming, then BANG!
Silence falls.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is written to sound like a flight that went wrong, however, it is in fact written about a typical bipolar cycle. You climb to a mood so elevated, so high that you feel that you are untouchable, something hits you that should damage you but you feel nothing. That is the mania cycle. But once you begin to feel pressure from anything, and you start to sink, you know then that you're falling, soon faster than anything else. Much like a plane breaking up mid-flight and then tumbling to the ground. This poem describes the cycles I go through, being bipolar myself.
