Siren Song (For Alexander Supertramp) Poem by David Saltaire

Siren Song (For Alexander Supertramp)

I am the rock
I am the spider
clinging here
like a part of forever.
I am the thread
I am the water
the fern in the hollow
the dirt of the trail
the beading of dew
the whisper of wind
I am the earth
beginning and end.
I hear the trees
their stories are told
I’m listening to you
I touch your green soul
I grow old and bend
I reach out for life
again and again.

I am underneath
I am in the sky
the vapor of a cloud
The dancing and the cry
Your fire-breathing child
The creeping of the ants
The gliding of the snake
The wandering of bears
The coyote’s primal cry...

The floating of the hawks
The trembling of hares
The quiet growth of the grass
The fragrances of summer
The colors of a sunrise
The peace inside the stone
I am in the air
I nestle in your bones.

And I am your sweet lover
Who beckons from the past
Who pulls you towards the future
While the now flows by so fast.
I am what you are
And you are everything.
Who knows what kind of magic
Your holiness can bring?
On this beach at midday
Myriad grains around
Laid out for Krishna’s sandal
Dreaming in the sun.
We are merging everywhere
All points and colors link
We are, we simply are
And that’s enough, I think
To last eternity
To flow into the sea
Ultimate liberty
Eternity in thee.
