Sister Poem by Neil Graham Marsden

Sister

For April....

When I think back in times anew
Consider all in stark review
about those days my Sister
scarred my heart

To recall nights I heard her cry
Whilst I did everything to try
drown out her sense of terror
from my mind

I’d plunge down deep beneath safe sheets
there wait until the ghoul defeats
that child who still worships all
his grimaced mask might say

I wish now I could lock her door
then melt the key to just make sure
those muffling hands could not reach out
to feast upon his Daughters soul again

My trembling arms would draw her near
then somehow overcome all fear
to show her she need never be
afraid of him again

I’d rise up for the chance to try
to stare her demon in the eye
and tell him that her beauty wasn’t
ever his to take

I'd take a gun and aiming high
his filthy brains would wash pure sky
then place the barrel in my mouth
and squeeze
