Skin Deep Poem by Michael Murphy

Skin Deep

..the beauty that appears to the eyes it's pretend....
it's the comfort inside that i long in the end....
the paint it will peel and the the skin it will flake
yet if built up correctly our bricks will not break
i've covered my windows and locked all my doors
for no one is getting inside anymore
if they come a knockin ' i'll pretend i'm not home
with all the luggage you carry i'm best left alone
i 'll keep my self entertained with my solitude games
it gets so complicated when i let someone else play
i'll let them win to feed their pride
forbid if they lose for it's not worth the fight
if it's not done their way there is sure hell to pay
just scold me and mold me like a cheap piece of clay
rape my beliefs and then dictate my actions
never again despite the attraction
the beauty that appears to the eyes bears no wieght
it just blind me with lies blurs the love with the hate
to my face they will smile and when i turn my back
that very same smile is sitting on another mans lap
to weed through the none sense and numb all the pain
with all the resentments that carry your name
my soul is a graveyard that's shrinking in space
as i bury the memories until their erased
