When he met her
He saw her broad smile
What lay behind
He didn't notice
How could he?
Blindness of love
Obscures all
Face may be
Or may not be
The index of mind
But turbulence of heart
Is another matter
Altogether
Hidden behind the smile
Was a whole world
The privacy of her self
Wrapped up inside her
She shared the smile
But not the mystery
Of her heart
Insulated from the excesses
Of intrusive external pressure
Of the turbulence of another's heart
The smile was a mask
To keep her and him
For ever apart
