Solace Of A Hike Poem by dave lessard

Solace Of A Hike

The breeze is cool and brisk
as I hike the well worn trail
where hills caress the desert
and sun-filled skies prevail.
Where the views go on forever
(you squint your eyes for shade)
and the vastness of the land
never in your mind does fade.
It's harsh but yet compelling
like a love you like and hate
it's stupendous and forbidding
like the grandeur of the state.
I still hike with little effort
the ridge... a gradually climb
a walk I come to frequently
just to ponder space and time.
To marvel at the distances
of a smallish man like me
to wonder at creation
and its grand geography.

Wonderful descriptive read that takes the reader to where you are. Very well-written, Dave! : -)
