Soldier Poem by Vianca Borrero

Soldier

Red white and blue
That flag we all stand up proud to salute
I stare up at that flag
The symbol of our freedom
It sways majestically in the wind
I feel a pull to it
I sign my papers
I throw on my shirt and pants
I pull on my boots
I put my cap on
I grab my gun and run out the door
My country calls for a soldier
We all march
Soldiers all
Race heritage History
It all fades away
We are no longer just civilians
We are soldiers all
We march
Through the trenches
We march
When everyone else is sleeping in their beds safely
We march
Staring in the face of danger
We march
Brothers sisters fathers daughters mothers
We march
Running up beaches
Standing in hail
Swimming in oceans
Crossing deserts
We march
I fight for my mother
I fight for my father
I fight for my brother
My sister
My aunts and uncles
My family
I march
Sleeping in mud
Freezing in 0 degree temperature
Swimming in the deepest ocean
Fatigue
I feel it
Yet i don't
I can feel my family
All cheering for me
I stand tall
I stand proud
Brothers Sisters
Mother Father
Aunts uncles
Grandmas and Grandpas
Family
I march
