Soldier Prayer Poem by Eric Paeplow

Soldier Prayer

The devil dreams on an idle horse
While passing time, as he waits for you
And while an idle man rusts,
A man on the move,
Is a hard one to hold on to
Because it's better to be hated for who you are
Than beloved for what you're not
So fight your fights and find your grace
And forget all the things that you can't change
So let the devil wait
And dream his dreams
And smile as you pass and whisper
Lucky thing for you motherfucker
That today I did not come for you
