Some Men Do Not Grow Wiser Poem by Francis Duggan

Some Men Do Not Grow Wiser

When he's on the booze he's always looking for fight
He was in another big punch up last night
With two swollen black eyes and a missing front tooth
From a knee or head butt to the face or a fist or a boot
He has been involved in a few bar brawls before
Some men do not grow wiser he is forty four
For drunken stupidity a huge price he does pay
Perhaps he should give the alcohol away
The grog has been many a person's downfall
A few beers in and he is ready for a brawl
His bar brawls have left him with a flattened nose
We get what we ask for one has to suppose
With a few ales in he does cause some offence
One would have thought that by now he would have better sense
