Something I Could Claim As Mine Poem by Francis Duggan

Something I Could Claim As Mine

Rating: 5.0

I do not seek fame and fortune all I ask for is peace of mind
And a small cottage in the country far removed from my own kind
A mile from my nearest human neighbour in my retreat hid by the trees
With a small car in my car port I could live a life of ease.

From the self seeking human rat race I am one who could opt out
Self esteem through the power of money should not be what life's about
Judged by one's finances and assets and judged by the work that one do
To live unknown in a remote place for me would be a dream come true.

With the wild birds for my neighbours in a cottage by a stream
Far from the crowded city suburb of such a pleasant life I dream
The approval of society's judges do not interest me at all
My dreams they don't seem unrealistic and my dreams they are only small.

It has been proved that woman on average by a few years outlive the man
But three score and ten the average human life time in time not such a lengthy span
Every day as we grow older we notice how the time fly
It doesn't seem that long at all now since I was a schoolgoing boy.

A small cottage in the country something I could claim as mine
With the wild birds for my neighbours such a life would suit
me fine
By a stream with trees in plenty I could enjoy peace of mind
In the lap of Mother Nature far removed from my own kind.
