Son Poem by Robert Beckerman

Son

Rating: 5.0

You came all this way.

Taking the route those before you did.
You came all this way to us.
Quiet evening, ancient song from a young songbird,
it bellows across this ginger and turmeric sky.
Roars down the quaint streets, swells off the town walls, rustles in bush.

Nomadic on the warm autumn wind you came.

You came by night, in the dark hour, when the brave are wide eyed and effervescent.

You came to join them.

My Son.Words I never thought to speak.
A saintly substance fills my heart, not there before.
A tonic that restored my body, ALIVE on this new found shore!
You gifted us a river of Love that broke a crippling levy in our hearts.
Baptized in all that is good and worthy.

Rise and run my son like the great Tigris, the lush Amazon, the sacred Nile.

Rise and run!
