Je suis sortie, une sorciere possedee,
en hantant l'air noir, plus brave la nuit;
en revant du mal, J'ai fait mon anicoche
sur les maisons simples, lumiere apres lumiere:
isolee, aux douze doights, perdu la raison.
Une telle femme n'est pas tout a fait une femme.
J'ai ete de son genre.
J'ai trouve les cavernes chaudes aux bois,
je les ai remplies de poelons, de sculptures, de rayons,
de penderies, de soies, d'articles sans nombre;
j'ai fait les soupers pour les vers et les elfes:
en gemissant, en rearrangeant les desalignes.
Une telle femme est incomprise.
J'ai ete de son genre.
Je suis allee dans votre chariot, charrettier,
j'ai fait signe des bras nus aux villages qui passent,
en apprenant les dernieres routes lumineuses, une survivante
la ou vos flammes me mordent encore la hanche
et j'ai les cotes qui craquent ou tournent vos roues.
Une telle femme n'a pas honte de mourir.

I recently read Zweig's Beware Of Pity in which I thought he was getting down reasons for killing himself, which he did not long after.
