Sonnet: About An Old Priest Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: About An Old Priest

He chose to be a priest in life and was,
A celibate endeavor for Christ Lord;
And Jesus was his only love and boss!
Reward would come from heaven's Maker, God.

The years of Bible studies were quite tough;
The parish work and teaching also hard;
Life brought its storms like ship caught in seas rough;
The trek wasn't easy on the narrow road!

Now in his nineties, life seems ebbing fast;
The frame is weaker but the spirit strong;
Frescoes of good and bad flash from the past;
His journey nears its end and so's his song!

On earth, the soul is in its final lap;
The tree's alive with disappearing sap!
Fondly dedicated to Rev. Fr. Antony Lawrence, Thindal
