Sonnet: Love ‘in Extremis’ Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Love ‘in Extremis’

Ah love, if love is more worthy than our life,
Divine as it was born amidst our strife,
I would readily take it with my knife,
If giving it can save our love not rife!

When love betwixt two minds has but one soul,
And the two lives on earth share just one goal,
What can be more precious than life given,
For keeping love alive than life liven?

Ah love, nothing on earth can drive a wedge,
Between us hearts united on cliff’s edge;
When joy’s the same in living or dying,
Must we continue to live by loving?

Ah love, tho’ human we’re, yet love’s divine!
Anything must be done to keep it fine.
