Sonnet: On Blood Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: On Blood

River of life – blood, coursing through the heart!
A living fluid tissue of body;
It carries nutrition to every part,
And keeps them free from every malady.

White cells defend the body from most germs;
Red cells carry the gases those diffuse;
Anemia, hyperemia – terms,
To show the lack of blood, more blood, in use.

The platelets serve to aggregate in clot;
The proteins work to maintain blood pressure;
Five liters blood is what adults have got;
Blood artificial can’t be made for sure.

In shock hypo-volemic, man’s bloodless;
Anemic persons with time turn breathless!
