Sonnet: Whither Social Justice? Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Whither Social Justice?

How can I fight the evils that I see,
Afflicting our social fabric for long?
Sometimes, I doubt if there’s an Almighty,
Who is never taken up by this sad song!

How can I help the innocents baited?
Some lives are spoilt in very profound ways!
How can I help the many ill-fated?
Gone is the cheer and loveliness of days.

Where is the fairness in this world at all?
And justice comes when everything is lost;
What is the remedy when people fall?
Insurmountably high appears the cost.

But evil-doers should not get reward!
Where are the righteous ones and where is God?
