Soul Searching Poem by Daniele Cerasoli

Soul Searching

On the outside, you're smiling
Trying not to drag your feet
But on the inside, you're dying
Feeling overcome with defeat.

You just need to find yourself
Because you've all that you know
I can't help you to look
Only to grow.

You need to do this alone
To be happy with yourself
But you must search
Even the highest shelf.

I want you to be happy
Especially with who you are
Because you're special
And I don't want you to drift far.

Doing things yourself
May make you think that you're alone
But you'll always have us:
Friend whom you can call your own.

When you're alone, look up at the moon
And when you do
You can know that I'll always
Be looking right back at you.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this about a close friend of mine. She's hit a rough patch in her life and I want her to know that I'll always be there for her, even though there are some things that she needs to do alone to be happy with herself.
