Antonio Dias (Hamilton, Ontario)
An Ode to Jay Gatsby
I had you
But I didn't cherish that time
I turned my back for a split second
When you and I were in our prime.
I'm the more sensitive
And I've got the brain
I'm the one that, without you,
Is in far greater pain.
I may not be the biggest, or
On top of the social ladder
But I know that if we don't have each other
We can both only get sadder.
They say I'm too good for you
That I deserve only the best
Because I've been far better to you
Than what you've expressed.
I've got everything to lose
With nothing to gain
Only, without you,
Just scars will remain.
If I lose you
I'll be dying inside
Just a hopeless man
With no one by his side.
