Souls Poem by gordon nosworthy

Souls

Rating: 5.0

i don't believe in souls but if i did i would believe
creatures killed in order for others to survive are born with souls
&die without them

i don't believe in souls but if i did i would believe
souls are released at death to take flight or walk stoically
into the raging bowels of a whiteout

i don't believe in souls but if i did i would believe
even though souls are invisible snow collects upon their body
to confirm they are beyond visible

i don't believe in souls but if i did i would believe
that old boots &even shoes drawn through the black black hole
are the souls of shape shifters

i don't believe in souls but if i did i would believe
anglers polar bears ravens &wolves are predacious souls who eat
other souls temporarily trapped in the guise of prey

i don't believe in souls but if i did i would believe
that anglers hunt &fish in a blizzard of souls that can neither
be created or destroyed

i don't believe in souls but if i did i would believe
that polar bears are translucent white as a reminder
of the long white time to come
