Spi Ezeroto / Sleeps The Lake

SPI EZEROTO…
ot Pencho Slaveikov,
publikuvano v 'Syn za Shtastie' 1958

Spi ezeroto; belostvoli buki
nad nego svozhdat viti granki,
i v tihite mu tymni glybini
preplitat otrazeni sianki.

Treperiat, shepnat belostvoli buki,
a to, zamrialo, nito trepva…
Poniakoga mu sal povyrhnini
dylgá ot list otronen sepva.

SLEEPS THE LAKE
by Pencho Slavejkov,
from
A Dream for Happiness,
1958

Sleeps the lake; white-branched beeches
bend twisted limbs above
interweaving mirrored shadows
in its quiet dark depths.

Tremble, whisper white-branched beeches;
and it, still-standing, does not even flinch…
Sometimes only its surfaces
are startled by a shed-leaf-trace.
