Sie klängen fein und süss wie eh’
Die Bäume vor der Stadt.
Und wer vor einem Regenguss
In ihrem Schatten Zuflucht fand,
Der hörte ihres Sanges Gruss
Wie von dem Baum im Land.

Dem Lärm, der diese Stadt umringt,
