Standing Around The Corner Poem by Nicholas Wayde Turner 24

Standing Around The Corner

I lived in my own world trying to avoid you.
I made up things in my head to avoid your abuse.
I never shared my hopes and dreams because you torched them down.
You did everything you could to make my life a nightmare.
You did everything you could to make sure I was scared of the world.
I wish I had the power to stand up to you back then.
I wish I had the power to stand up to you now.
Why were you so mean?
I did everything I could think of to keep you from getting mad.
I took every detour to keep from crossing your path.
If there was a remote chance that you would catch my eye, I turned the other way.
You guys caught me hiding around the corners, and you gave me a hard time.
Did you know why I did that?
Did you know that I was hurting and didn’t want to admit that it was your fault?
Why did you have to make it worse?
Why did you have to ruin my childhood?
Why were you so crazy?
