State Of Being Poem by Lily Ives

State Of Being

Rating: 5.0

There are no lessons to learn;
the old chapters in my book
grip to tired and faded pages.
Chasing happiness lies behind me;
Haze lingers before me,
I'm in no man's land,
and I have nowhere to go,
nor do I have anyone to be.
All I have is the present moment
and the constant state of suffering;
love alleviates it,
heartbreak worsens it,
But only ever so temporarily -
And I'm back to this ebb
and flow of living on borrowed time,
from one second to the next.
I count my blessings each day
And accept that I am a puppet
of the great unknown
until I disappear into the vast darkness,
unaware of having lived.
Though I'm free in this world and not alone,
I'm imprisoned by the cycle that governs me as
I'm swallowed whole by the merciless cosmic ocean,
and released back to the pure state of being.
