Steps Poem by Mary Jesusa Villegas

Steps

Sometimes these steps aren't who we are
Steps we shouldn't be taking
how far
How far can I go
How many miles
Do you want me to show
you that
I can get very far
But these steps aren't who we are.

Sometimes these steps aren't the steps
we think we know
Steps we've planned out before
hugging our pillow
I want to go back
and release my sorrow
from the fading distance
I want to glow
But how far
How far should I go back
to satisfy these plans
But those steps wouldn't bring back the chance
to simply undo regrets
To even feel alive with happy memories
for we rot and decay
and we fade
we fade in the horizon
we fade in the horizon.

I guess I have to follow that star
and just

Move, move
Everything will shine
Move, move
Everything will be fine
Move
There's a bright future ahead
with slow steps
slow steps
at a time.

Sometimes these steps
can't decide for itself
Otherwise you would have
known how it felt
to be frozen in your own two feet
lost in the heart of the weak
and you just want to go back home
I missed the sky blue streets.
But I have to

Move, move
Everything will shine
Move, move
Everything will be fine
Move
There's a bright future ahead
with slow steps
slow steps
at a time.

Take it slow oh

I can see the star glowing so bright
I don't need someone to be with me
except for the moon heavens and the hopeful twilight
I can see I can win in this journey

Surely. Slowly. Slowly.

Surely.

How far? How far?
Sometimes these steps aren't who we are
How far? How far?
But these steps can make us who we are
So how far? how far?
I guess I have to follow my star
I guess I have to follow my star

Move. move
move move
move...
