Stop It Now Poem by Richard Sockett

Stop It Now

I know someone who loves me far too much
But there are some places you are not allowed to touch
He says its our big secret and says I must not tell
But it hurts so much that I just want to yell
A gentle hug and a ruffle of the hair on my head
Hours later when all is quiet he creeps into my bed
Forcing me to hunt the sausage is his favourite game
It's no fun for me, all I feel is shame

I'm curled up in a ball, waiting for the next strike
That fearsome rage is common now, I know what its like
The smelly breath, the rolling eyes are the warning signs
Then comes the beating, when it's over blood trickles down in lines
Pinned up against the wall he orders me to lie
As to how I got my bruises, otherwise I will die
Even when he's sober he hits me just for fun
I feel trapped, scared, there is nowhere to run

I'm made to feel worthless, I'm made to feel small
People just ignore me as if I'm not there at all
Nasty words are fired at me like bullets from a gun
Cursing, swearing, insulting phrases that would shock a nun
I'm hated, unloved, bullied by the ones I trust the most
For breakfast if I'm lucky I get a scrap of blackened toast
Maybe its frustration, trying to find out what makes me tick
But nobody asks me, instead I'm labelled thick

My nightmare has now ended, at last someone loves me
I found my courage and my voice, and put an end to it you see
I feel protected now I am in foster care
So I wrote this poem to thank those with the time to spare
Who helped me and can help you turn your life around
So make that call or tell someone, salvation can be found
If you want a better life make yourself this vow
With all your heart and all your soul shout out STOP IT NOW
