The Last Day Of School Poem by Richard Sockett

The Last Day Of School

At last the big day has come
Happy times for most but sad days for some
A big new adventure awaits in September
My girl is hoping to be a school choir member
Fond memories fill the childrens heads
Parents write about it in discussion forum threads
School T-shirts emblazoned with the names of good mates
Walking, running, skipping through the school gates
Six weeks off, I think I'll tear out my hair
What to do in that time with them causes stress and despair
Teachers say their goodbyes and prepare for next year
Imparting wisdom and guidance without any fear
The last day has more meaning for those moving school
From infants to juniors to high - wow thats so cool
Some say school days are the best of your life
But now my best are every one spent with my good lady wife
