Strange New Will Poem by Jason Caporaletti

Strange New Will

Isn't it strange,
that someone would want change?
Something other than the same
old endlessly selfish political game?

The arrival of change
itself sounds so strange,
after all the years of choking
on meaninglessness and swing voting.

We're used to the lies through their teeth,
anything to avoid defeat.
Accustomed to a broken promise,
they never bother to accomplish.

Who are the estranged
who want things changed?
The jaded ones would you ask 'how
will this cycle be broken now? '

But this time 'round there is a sign
that marks the turning of the tide.
It is the new generation,
the young voices speaking as one.

With passion like the founding fathers
the hope of today's sons and daughters,
in truth it's anything but strange,
for we are here, we are the change.
