Street Light Poem by Chibueze Oscar Osuji

Street Light

Street light will be taking me home
If moonlight do not show,
Various bulbs will twinkle an ohm;
I'll watch them as they glow.

Not sooner have i move my feet
On the zig-zag pathway
When nine or ten bulbs glow the street:
Radiate the night as day.

The creator will be watching me,
My shadow will be close
And each time i pause; suddenly
Chill'd air swamp through my nose.

Street lights became my blissful hosts
Aiding my dimming sight,
Shapes i saw could be men or ghosts
For strange beings roam the night.

On this numb pathway i walk'd by
With my fear and courage,
Tonight when the moon left the sky;
The night burns out with rage.

The moon had let me down tonight
The clouds had cover'd it,
I was consol'd by the street light
With its safety verdict.
