Strive Together

The English could have dumped 'frith' for 'peace'
after the Romans took them over,
or could have waited
till after the French took them too.

In either case, the dumping
wouldn't have happened just like snap.
'Frith' and 'peace' would have striven together,
like 'faucet' now strives with 'tap'.
