Subtle Syllables Poem by Snehlata Jha

Subtle Syllables

Returning from work,
I felt alert
As I heard
Obscenities whispered
By an office clerk.

Standing on the side
A car sped from behind;
I shuddered
As he winked from inside,
Bloodshot eyed.

A man came in my way
Yesterday.
I dodged,
Filled with dismay
To avoid his dirty display.

Subtle syllables of aggression
And molestation
Accepted
Without question
By half of this nation.
