Summer Poem by Alex Garr

Summer

The smell of summer pervades the air.
The sweet scent of grass,
The delightful fragrance of the daisies and roses.
The succulent aroma of a barbecue
Drifts through the festivities.

The soft gurgling of the stream
Meanders placidly between the willow trees,
Whose leaves droop towards the water
Like hundreds of throats searching for a drink.
The mellow trilling of a flute,
Coupled with the acoustic strums of a guitar,
Are borne aloft by the merriment of the celebration.

And yet I notice none of it.
All I am aware of is
The beautiful mural of the night sky
And the feeling I get as
She lays down next to me.

Sitting here on our hill,
Away from friends and family
And the rest of the world,
It makes me wish this feeling
Would never end.
