Summer Image Poem by Francis Duggan

Summer Image

The buzz of flies and wasps and bees
The birds rejoice on leafy trees,
The flowers of Nature bloom between
The grass so lush and richly green.

And there is beauty to behold
In the flowery furze of yellow gold
And overhead the smiling sun
Give proof that Summer days have come.

The graceful swallows kings of flight
Birds that follow the sun's warm light
Have flown back home from Lands beyond the sea
For to raise another family.

Each Summer they return to their place of birth
To fly o'er fields of native earth,
To build nest and mate with swallow wife
And hatch their swallow eggs to life.

And oh the feeling it is nice
To hear again the cuckoo's voice
To hear again the two fold word
Of that well known sluggish wandering bird

Season of fair hued butterflies
Of sunshine days and cloudless skies
Of birds that carol loud and clear
Their songs of joy and heartfelt cheer.
