Summer Time Poem by Helen Wilby

Summer Time

Summer time
Some time
Dozy days
With you and the willow trees
Doodling at the waters edge
Mosquitoes stinging
Crickets creaking
And the snick of the batsman and the bowlers meeting
Far away in another time
Dawdling down
With dandelions and daisies
And the smell of the hot grass
Warm beer buzzing
Round my head
Like heavy drops of golden honey bees
The whole world asleep
But for us and the pigeons
Cooing the evening home
