Summer Was (Ii) Poem by R. L. Allen

Summer Was (Ii)

Summer was the longing we felt each other feel,
Like the certainty of hope in a newly spinning wheel.

Summer was the sunshine that shouted through the rain,
Like a prayer up to the heavens, like calling out your name.

Summer was the picture frame that lay upon my desk,
Like an old, forsaken memory burning in my chest.

Summer was the love that you threw down from the stars,
A kiss from you to me: a simple message from afar.

Summer was the breeze that blew right through my soul,
Like a storm upon the beaches, wild and uncontrolled.

Summer was your music that played inside my heart,
Like a clock whose hands were turning, winding back towards the start.
